Pfizer Ireland today presented the Irish Cancer Society with a cheque for €196,346 following the Pfizer Charity Cycle which took place in September.
Over 230 Pfizer colleagues from across the country cycled 300km from Pfizer Grange Castle to Pfizer Ringaskiddy in order to raise awareness of cancer and raise much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
The charity cycle is an employee driven event which is supported by Pfizer Ireland. The 2023 cycle marked the third year of the event and to date the event has raised over €446,451 for the Irish Cancer Society.
John Sourke, VP of Operations, Drug Substance presented the Irish Cancer Society with the proceeds of the cycle today and said: “I’m so pleased to be able to present the Irish Cancer Society with this cheque for €196,346. I know these very significant funds will have a huge impact on those suffering from cancer and their families.
“The Irish Cancer Society is a cause very close to the hearts of many of my colleagues within Pfizer and this was obvious in the enthusiasm that they showed to not only complete the cycle but to raise these huge sums of money. I want to give a special thanks to all my colleagues who took part in the cycle and those who helped to make it happen. It was a fantastic occasion and we’re already looking forward to next year.”
Averil Power, CEO, Irish Cancer Society said: “We are so grateful to Pfizer and its employees for their incredible continued support. It is thanks to your generosity that cancer patients and their families have access to vital free services and supports like counselling, transport to treatment and financial aid. Your generous donations will also fund ground-breaking cancer research, bringing us closer to our vision of a future where no one dies from the disease. Together, we are making a difference and bringing hope to everyone affected by cancer.”
